(4)ย And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Today’s Devotional Is THE MESSAGE OF PENTECOST
It is comforting to know that the Holy Spirit’s presence is still present wherever there are two or three people gathered in Christโs Name. We have a different receptive attitude. God, infinitely present, cannot be said to have more in one place than the other. He is everywhere at all times. Pentecost is only possible if hearts are prepared as the disciples were. The counterpart to all the wonderful experiences they had may be available for us. The Spirit of God might inspire us. We may feel the warmth of Divine love in our hearts. And we may be able to speak with men about the amazing works of God.
All were filled with the Spirit and that is our commandment. We should ask ourselves if this is our abiding experience. This is not for prophets or apostles, but for mothers with their children, businessmen in their stores, young women in offices, and shop workers.
This baptism of spiritual power produced amazing results. Many were converted and baptized. They persevered. These converts are a benefit to any church and they infuse it with a divine attractiveness and adhesiveness.
Our Church-ordinances began with the teaching of doctrine, breaking bread and fellowship in prayer. Young converts should be given to any Church and provided for the opportunity to participate in services. Mutual consent seems to have abandoned the principle of having everything in common. Although it seemed essential that new converts be trained in Christian living, it was clearly susceptible to abuse and could have led to them becoming lazy or unwelcome imposters in the Church. It is likely to be a wiser principle to manage our property for God rather than to give it to others. (See Mat_25:20-21; Luk_12:42-44.)
Their joy is exuberant (Act_2:46โ47). This is a sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life. The result is love, joy and peace which are incredibly attractive.
