Today’s Devotional Is GOD’S HERITAGE IN HUMANITY
When we dedicate ourselves to God, we are not becoming His possession but acknowledging that we are already His. We live our lives in a way that reflects this truth, recognizing that we are not our own but have been bought at a great price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). In his Song, Moses uses three beautiful metaphors to illustrate God’s care for us.
First, he describes us as the apple of God’s eye (Deuteronomy 32:10). Just as we instinctively protect our eyes from harm, so God protects us from evil and impurity. He creates safeguards to keep us from being stained by the world around us.
Next, Moses compares us to young eagles (Deuteronomy 32:11). Just as a mother eagle nudges her young out of the nest to teach them to fly, God sometimes disrupts the comfortable lives we’ve built for ourselves to teach us to trust in Him. He catches us when we falter and bears us up on His strong wings.
Finally, Moses speaks of God’s divine leading (Deuteronomy 32:12). Like a mother guiding her child, God takes us by the hand and leads us on the path that He has set for us.
The book of Ephesians expands upon these ideas, listing the many blessings that God has given us. He has redeemed us from sin, showered us with His grace, sealed us with His Spirit, and will one day present us before Him, blameless and without blemish, to the praise of His glory.
