Daily Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 8:2 KJV
Deuteronomy 8:2 KJV
(2) And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
Today’s Devotional Is LOOKING BACKWARD
The key message of this chapter is “Remember!” While faith begins without any evidence of an external or positive kind, each day adds to the weight of its indisputable testimony. We will be able to see the certainty of an eternal, spiritual world that surrounds us from all sides if we accept this assumption. It’s a good idea to look back and observe the path. The thread of Divine purpose is the glue that binds together all the different coloured parts of our lives.
Note the alliteration for Deu_8.15 and Deu_8.16. “Who led you”; “Who fed you.” God feeds those who follow Him! You can look back at the past and see how His guidance has been as reliable as his care. The Lord is always there to guide them on their own paths.
Take a look back at the past. Its discipline is intended to strengthen and chasten us. Its trials are meant to show God’s ability to deliver us in times of trouble so that we can glorify Him. The horrible wilderness of loneliness, fiery serpents and temptation, the manna that has never failed, the water which the Rock ever gave, all these are meant to show us God’s power to deliver in times of trouble. Deu_8.17-18 teaches us humility. Do not be proud of your achievements or boast about them. You can thank God for the ability to gain wealth and honour. He does this with a very specific purpose. Do you pledge to worship and serve Him? As you ascend the hill and descend into the plain, unknowing what lies ahead, veiled by the mist, don’t be afraid to tighten your girdle and put your hand in His. He will bless the world with His instruments.
