Daily Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:16 KJV
Galatians 5:16 KJV
(16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Today’s Devotional Is GOING INSIDE THE SPIRIT
HE will lead us if we walk in His spirit. We are more likely to be impulsive and headstrong in the beginning stages of our lives than we were when Moses rescued the Egyptian. As we gain more Christian experience, we learn to wait for the Spirit’s leadings, which move us by His suggestion and impress on us His will. This then allows us to do what He has commanded, which is to make our character and actions a reality. We don’t follow the lead, but we do follow. The Spirit leads us.
Walking in the Spirit is not a desire to satisfy the fleshlust. Although the desire to satisfy natural hunger may be present in the soul, it may not manifest as thoughts. It is impossible to stop the desire, but it can be resisted.
Walking in the Spirit produces in us the fruit that is holy. It is striking to see the contrast between the fleshly, i.e. the selfish life, and the fruit of His influence. There is effort, machinery clattering, and the factory’s deafening hum. The fruit of Nature’s still, steady, and regular production of the good fruits of the earth is the quiet, peaceful, and constant process that yields them. It is so quiet! It is silent. It is nearly impossible to see the effects of a long day of sun. Autumn’s growth is accompanied by quiet footsteps. The Spirit walks with us every day. Although there are no unusual experiences or marked transitions, there is no need to keep a diary. However, every year, those living in close proximity see a growing wealth of fruits in the form of love, joy and peace.
PRAYER for Today
Gracious Lord! Your Holy Spirit may keep me walking in the light of Thy countenance. May He fill me with Thy love and closeness. To please Thee, order my steps and be with me as I walk. AMEN.
