Daily Scripture Reading: Genesis 26:22 KJV
Genesis 26:22 KJV
(22) And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
Daily Devotional On DIGGING WELLS
ISAAC SEEMS to have been a rather disappointing character. We sometimes wonder if he should be compared with Abraham, the father for all believers; or Jacob, who triumphed with the Angel, and became a prince! He was quiet and passive and was open to meditation. God’s purpose encompasses all types and types of men. Isaac dug wells from which men have drank for thousands of years.
As his wells indicate, he was always pursued by jealousy, enmity and strife. He resigned from conflict each time and gave his well to dig another. His enemies finally had to admit that he was stronger than them (Gen_26.16). The best part is that God appeared to him “the very same night” and promised He would be with him and bless him.
Let’s learn to subliminate our resistance to evil and elevate it from the physical level to the spiritual and moral levels. Pro_16:32 says, “He who is slow to anger will be better than the powerful.” Keep digging wells – the wells of Family Prayer, love for God, and holy habits. Spring water will be found (Gen_26.19). This is God’s side in your life. While you are called to dig wells (Joh_4.14), God’s Holy Spirit will rise in your soul and in the soulss of others. Let us give Him our souls and bodies to be the channels and wells through which His eternal Godhead and Power, rising from the infinite depths of His nature, can reach this parched and thirsty world.
God is Love: God is Self-Giving. But God needs our cooperation to provide outlets for His Love and Goodness.
