Daily Scripture Reading: Genesis 42:36 KJV
Genesis 42:36 KJV
(36) And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.
Today’s Devotional Is THINGS FOR and AGAINST
THY COMPLAINT is bitter, Prince of Israel! What is the matter with you? Is there any comfort?
It is a pleasure to be sad! My years were short and difficult. I was driven from my father’s house; a stranger in an unfamiliar land for thirty years; terrified of my brother; forced by the misdeeds my sons to leave the country; bereaved by my beloved Rachel; and lamed through my resistance against God’s Angel.
We should not make hasty judgements about God’s dealings. Without some cross-stitches, He can’t work out His fair plan. They are His water-cisterns on one side, while the sun bathes them on the other. Don’t look at your troubles from the lowlands, but from the highlands of God’s purpose. While the present may be joyful and grievous, there is no need to chasten. Instead, focus on what comes afterward. Jacob would not have reached the shining tableland if he hadn’t been guided along this particular path. God is Sun.
“In all of these things, we are more than conquerors!” These are bold words, thou strenuous spirit, how darest you reverse the findings from the patriarch? Have thou heard the depths? Have thou been in a pit?
“Ay! “Ay! I’ve experienced hardship, distress, persecution and famine. I was also beaten with rods three times, once stoned. I have been through many perils and journeys, including hunger, thirst, cold, and pain. However, nothing has been able to separate me from Christ’s love. I believe that life and death, as well as things past and future, will never be able to separate us from His love, which is Christ Jesus our Lord.
Yes! You are right, great apostle and lover of Christ! All these are things that make us more than conquerors through Him who loves us, Jesus Christ, our Saviour!
PRAYER for Today
Please help me, Lord, to believe that my losses are actually gains and that every ounce of suffering is contributing to the weight of glory. Not only in the future, but right now! AMEN.
