Daily Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:17 KJV
Heb 12:17 KJV
(17) For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
Mat 23:37 KJV
(37) O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Today’s Devotional Is LOST OPPORTUNITIES
THE GREEKS were Opportunity, bald and without a lock of hair. She fled away from them. There is always an opportunity. However, there are often no signs of it approaching or its demise. Once it is gone, it’s hard to get it back. Queen Victoria gave an opportunity to a relatively unknown painter for a private sitting once. He was five minutes late and she arrived at the time he had requested.
Esau sold his birthright! He didn’t care about the spiritual prerogatives of the first-born, to serve as the priest of clan and to be in the lineal descent of Messiah. He wanted to satisfy his senses. He was forced to sell his birthright. He did not find a place for repentance, but it does not mean he could not. The decision was made and he was declared to have failed. Every person has the right to choose to act, to make a decision, and to trade the spiritual for the material. The decision is final. We must be careful not to be manipulated by passion into an act that could affect our entire destiny.
Jerusalem would have been saved by the loving arms of God’s love if she had accepted His servants and His Son. Her day of opportunity was over!
Salvation is available for all. There is still hope for salvation, and we have the opportunity to repent so long as the day is not over. But, McCheyne reminded us, Christ always knocks at our door. This is your moment of hope, of new beginnings, of a new chance. Your life is your opportunity to make Christ King. He gives you the chance to be His King. Do your best, find your place in His Kingdom and follow Him with all of your heart, mind, strength.
PRAYER for Today
O Lord, let us not serve Thee as slaves with a spirit of servitude, but with joy and gladness like children, enjoying Thee and celebrating Thy works. AMEN.
