Hebrews 5:8-9 KJV
(8) Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
(9) And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
Today’s Devotional Is CHRIST’S PERFECTING WORK
Our Father gave us a companion, a captain of the march, a brother, even Jesus our Lord. He has passed through the sufferings of death and is now crowned in glory and honour (Heb_2_9-11). He has walked along our path and climbed our steep ascents in order to be our faithful and merciful Friend and Helper. In this way He was made perfect and became the Author of eternal salvation for all who obey Him.
It was impossible for Him not to be perfect in His Nature. All the goodness of the Divine Nature was found in Him, and He lived it without any hindrance. However, since flesh and blood were shared by the children, Jesus Himself also took part in the same. It was His duty to make all things like His brothers. Each of us hears His words: “I have walked this path before Thee, so I know all the details.” Christ is the Great Heart, the Companion of all pilgrim souls.
To walk with Him and to receive His eternal salvation, however, we must learn obedience. Nature teaches scientists this lesson. He must pay attention to every detail, be precise and meticulous. He must not fail in a single point. Engineers must be exact in their obedience. Even the smallest inadvertence can clog or stop the most powerful machine human ingenuity has ever created. Disobedience in the spiritual realm can lead to the most devastating and catastrophic catastrophes. Even in the darkness, we must learn to obey! It is not our responsibility to answer or question God’s actions. He will not withhold His reasons but demand our obedience.
God has given us the strength to obey. An angel appeared from Heaven to help Christ. That angel is available to all who are walking on difficult and dark roads. You will never see the angel until you get to Gethsemane. These are the things that our Lord has learned through experience. He can then give eternal salvation to all souls.
