Hebrews 9:14 KJV
(14) How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Daily Scripture Reading: THE TIMELESS CROSS
What is the meaning of the great word eternal? It is often used as a synonym for everlasting. The two words mean two different things. The idea of eternal refers to the time duration, while everlasting is about the character and quality of the existence that is referred to. The eternal is something that is not measured in time. It has no succession of decades, and cannot be called past or future. It is the eternal present and cannot be used by anyone other than God, the I AM. He lives in the eternal here. He has never been and will never be anything other than the present moment. Only that which takes part in His Being can be called eternal.
We must believe, therefore, that the Cross contained this element of Timelessness when we hear that our Lord offered Himself to God through His Eternal Spirit. Rev_13:8. Our Lord was the Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the universe. The Cross of Christ has always been present with all generations of humanity. It is this attribute of Timelessness that gives the Cross its eternal power. In this sense, Christ is constantly being wounded by our transgressions and bruised by our iniquities. He is then chastised for his peace and carries the stripes that will heal us.
Every sinner is welcome to the Cross of Christ. The years have not made the nails rusty or dulled since they were driven into Christ’s flesh. As we humble ourselves and allow our selfish and prideful soul-lifes to be nailed to the Cross with Christ, in the power and the Eternal Spirit of the Eternal God, suffering brings life to all who are served by the Living God. We can then say with the Apostle, “Death works in us, but life is in you.” (2Co_4:10-12).
PRAYER for Today
We praise Thee, Lord Jesus Christ, for not withholding Thyself from The Cross. Allow us, Eternal Spirit, to give our lives to Calvary so that Thy risen life might be manifested in our mortal flesh. AMEN.
