Today’s Devotional Is THE SEVENFOLD WORK OF GOD’S SPIRIT

In Isaiah 11:2, it says, “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord.” This passage perfectly summarizes the sevenfold work of God’s Holy Spirit. This chapter is a beautiful forecast of our Savior’s person and work, and it reminds us that even though the stock of Jesse was cut down to its roots, it yielded the Messiah.

Our Lord’s mother was so poor that she could only offer the humblest and poorest of gifts, but He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and anointed and empowered for service in His baptism. Our Savior never allowed Himself to be influenced by the evil surroundings of this world. Let us strive to live like Him, in the world, but not of it. We can inhale the pure air of Holy Scripture and prayer, just as we instinctively recognize the foetid air of certain places and society.

The Holy Spirit of God anoints us for service, and builds within us His sixfold grace. We all need wisdom in the spirit, and understanding in the intellect. We need counsel and direction to find our life’s purpose, and might to execute God’s plan for our lives. We need to become students of God’s knowledge, and show devout reverence towards Him. We should make each of these the subject of our special dealings with the Paraclete, who gives freely to all who will yield their wills, minds, and lives to His control (Galatians 5:22).

If we do this, all creation will respond to us, and there will be a new beauty in heaven and earth. This is a preface and augury of the new creation that will emerge when our Savior returns to bring in the millennium of blessedness and peace.

Prayer For Today

In prayer, let us ask the Lord Jesus to fill us with His Holy Spirit and prepare us for the new life, where all evil passions will be subdued, and the knowledge of His redeeming love will flow over the world.
