Daily Scripture Reading: Isaiah 6:6-7 KJV
Isaiah 6:6-7 KJV
(6) Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
(7) And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
Today’s Devotional Is THE MESSAGE OF SERAPHIM
EACH SERAPH had six wings. “With twain, he covered his faces.” This was Reverence. It is an angelic and human trait that is the most noble. The stateman who, beneath human movements, sets himself to understand God’s purpose. Artist who is able to see a Presence that fills him with pure and elevated ideals, be it in poetry, music or painting. A scientist who likens himself to a child collecting pebbles along the shores of an endless ocean. They resemble the Seraphim because of their veiled faces.
“With twain they covered their feet”–Self-effacement and Humility. We are second-rate if we start to think and speak of ourselves. Although we may be useful and attractive, we are not the best. In their intense love for God, the angels forgot about themselves. We must forget about ourselves in His loving constraining love so that we can live for Him, not ourselves.
“With twain did they fly”–Obedient service. This is the way to spend the third of our energy. If we want to be dreamy mystics, then two-thirds must be spent on worship and communion. This kind of life is contagious. “One cried to another.” The eager soul that is right with God is always crying out. This awakens others and inspires them to serve. The forest-glade will be woken by the sound of one bird singing in the woods at dawn. The Seraphim declared the entire earth full of God’s glory
The prophet recognized his need for cleansing and said, “Woe to me!” I am a man with unclean lips. It is not necessary to groan with God about cleansing. All we need to do is confess to God. One of the Seraphim will immediately fly to our aid. Nay, the Lord Himself – Lo, this live coal, saturated in blood and steeped with flame that combines Calvary/Pentecost, has cleansed our iniquity & purified our sins! We will then cry out: “Here I am; send me!” The best evangelists are those who have been forgiven and cleansed of sin.
PRAYER for Today
We need more than angels’ love from the Lord; Thou hast saved us. Give us the speed of an angel’s obedience. May we obey Thy commands and listen to Thy voice. We ask that Thy grace cleanses us of all sin and that we be freed from all iniquity. AMEN.
