Jeremiah 2:13 Devotional On BROKEN CISTERNS

Daily Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 2:13 KJV

Jeremiah 2:13 KJV
(13)  For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

John 7:37 KJV
(37)  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

Today’s Devotional Is BROKEN CISTERNS

It is a terrible mistake to overlook the fountain that freely flows to quench our thirst and to empty out broken cisterns which lead to disappointment and despair. These words may be read by many, each with a soul-thirst for satisfaction. They are all within reach of God, whose natural nature is like rock-water for those who are thirsty, but they are trying to satisfy the unattainable desire for the infinite and Divine with men and the things that make sense.

The cisterns of Pleasure are engraved with fruits, flowers, and wrought at the expense of health and peace. There’s also the cisterns of Wealth that is gilded with expensive gems and the cisterns of Human Love, which, although beautiful and fair, cannot satisfy the soul who rests there alone. All these, built at an inexorable cost of time, strength, and labor, are dangerous and disappointing.

The fountain of God’s Love flows through our feet, through the channel of Jesus Christ the Divine Man. He said to us, “Whoever drinks of the water I shall give him shall not thirst.” If the water is to be able to flow over our dry lips, we must descend to the stream’s level. Calvary is our final destination. We must return to Calvary and take our place at the foot of Calvary. Hear again His words, “I thirst,” so that He can freely give the Water of Life to all who seek Him.

If you are tired of all the work that you have done, get out your tools and return to God. You must give up the alliances, friendships, and idolatries that have separated you from your closest friend. Let God open your heart so that He can create in you the fountains of living water, rising up to eternal life. “The Spirit and Bride say, Come! Let him who heareth say, “Come!” Let him who is hungry, Come! Let him who will, take the water of life without restriction.”

“I came to Jesus and I drank.”

That Life-giving stream.

My thirst was quenched and my soul was reborn.

Now I live in Him.”

PRAYER for Today

Teach us, Lord, how to live in fellowship with Thee so that every act is a Psalm and every meal is a sacrament. Every room becomes a sanctuary. AMEN.
