Daily Scripture Reading: John 11:3 KJV
“His sisters sent a message to Jesus, saying, “Lord, the one you love is sick.”” — John 11:3.
Today’s Devotional Is Love’s Trust!
As we read this passage, we witness a unique relationship between Jesus and the family of Lazarus. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus were dear friends of Jesus, and He would often visit them in their home in Bethany. In this household, we see three distinct personalities: Martha, a practical, hardworking woman; Mary, a sensitive, spiritual person with great insight; and Lazarus, a quiet, unassuming man.
When Lazarus fell sick, his sisters sent word to Jesus, knowing that He would come to their aid. But instead of rushing to Lazarus’ side, Jesus waited two days before embarking on the journey. The sisters’ faith was tested, and they struggled with the pain and grief of their brother’s sickness. Jesus used this situation to teach them an unforgettable lesson about faith and trust.
When Jesus finally arrived, Lazarus had already been dead for four days. But Jesus showed His power by raising Lazarus from the dead, demonstrating that He is the Resurrection and the Life. Martha was challenged to put her faith in Jesus, and as she surrendered her doubts, she witnessed a great miracle.
As believers, we are called to co-operate with Christ in His work of redemption. There are many people who are still bound by old habits and sinful ways, and Jesus is calling us to help set them free. We must trust in His power and have faith that He can do great things through us.
Prayer For Today
Dear God, we thank You for the gift of faith and trust in You. Help us to always believe in Your power and Your goodness, even when we are faced with difficult circumstances. Give us the courage to co-operate with You in Your work of redemption, and to be instruments of Your love and grace in the lives of others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
