Daily Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:25 KJV
Matthew 13:25 KJV
(25) But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Today’s Devotional Is WHEAT AND TARES
OH, how clear our Lord spoke of Satan’s personality! The Lord explained this parable by saying clearly, “The enemy who sows them is the Devil.” He understood that the great enemy of God’s Kingdom and human happiness is in all hearts, in the Church and in the world. Although the seed might be small, irreparable damage can be done in one night.
You will notice that our actions are influenced by the seeds we receive. Those who receive wheat-seed turn into wheat, while those who receive tare-seed turn into tares. “As a man thinks in his heart so is he.” We should be careful about what books we read, how we interact with others, and the recreational activities we engage in. These are just a few of the ways that our characters are formed. We can be a tare-seed if we are careless and impulsive. This seed germinates into weeds, and then becomes rubbish. If our duties lead us to places where there is evil, we can claim the power of Christ and hide in Him. The same way a doctor or nurse would spray disinfectant on themselves when they are called to a place where there is plague or fever, so will the Holy Spirit who will bathe us in His Holy Spirit. He will also be our antiseptic and protect us from the temptations (Gal_5/16-17).
It is often said that there is no difference between wheat and tares in the early stages of growth. Only when harvest arrives does the distinction become very important. In the Church and around the world there are many fakes. They appear to be honest and trustworthy, but in reality they are just that: counterfeits. “All that cause stumbling and those that do iniquity” will be the two categories that will be thrown out at the end (Mat_13.41, R.V.). You may not be among those who do iniquity in all its glaring manifestations, but is your inconsistent behavior or worldliness causing others to stumble? Let us all take the time to examine ourselves and allow the Lord Jesus to give us the uncorruptible seed He will implant through His Word.
PRAYER for Today
We ask for a pure judgement and a true understanding Thy Word, O Lord. This will ensure that we are not deceived or carried away by any error. But grant us grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. AMEN.
