Today’s Devotional Is THE MEANING OF CROSS

FAITH is not a mere intellectual experience of a factual statement. It is our trust in the One who is true. It is not enough to believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for us, but we must trust Him. Christ’s personal touch with us is what makes His life pass into our nature. This makes us sound, healthy, and secure.

What does the Cross really mean for you and me? It does not mean that our Lord was willing to submit Himself completely to the Father’s will. In no way did He claim to be the source and fountain of His actions, but He was always the empty channel through whom God poured Himself. “He humbled himself and made Himself obedient to death, even death on the cross. It looked as though He was going down, one rung at a time, until He reached Hades. He gave up all to follow God’s Will, but God raised him from the lowest depths to the Eternal Trinity.

Each of us has strong self-will. You might say, “I’m determined to be a good person or woman, to live an honorable life, and to quit bad habits. I will.” It is impossible to do so. Only when we can see ourself, our energy, and our good self, as well as our poor self, brought to an end on Jesus’ Cross, will we be able enter into and live His eternal Life.

Now, I want you to be able to see the One who completely gave up His will. You should see your self-deprecating nature and surrender it to God. Only when we are weak are we really strong. It is only when our weakness is that we can share in the eternal victory of Christ over the devil, and the power that evil has.

PRAYER for Today

O God, Thou hast shown Thyself to Us in Thy Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. We love Him because He suffered the Cross and took the shame to save us. We should follow Him along the Cross, sharing His sorrows and His rebukes, and obediently even to death so that we can also live and reign with Him, and more fully, at the end. AMEN.
