Proverbs 20:27 KJV
(27) The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
Today’s Devotional Is ILLUMINATED LIFES
The TABERNACLE, which Moses built, and Solomon’s Temple, were modeled on the divine pattern. It consisted of three parts: the outer Court with its altar, laver, and facing the world of life; the Holy of Holies with its candlestick, table, and altar; and the Holy Place, between them. This picture can be used to represent your own nature. The body is the outer court. Through it, we touch the world. The spirit is our most holy spot, and through him we can enter into communion with God. The soul lies between them, the seat of all our personality, including our will, conscience, and emotion.
Our text says that the “spirit of man” is the candle of God. Although the candle is lit for illumination, there are many unlit candles. Is your spirit being rekindled by the Divine Spirit? Does the flame burn brightly? Your spirit’s windows offer a view of God’s City and Delectable Mountains, but have you drawn the blinds all around so that the sun can shine in the everyday places of daily living? Also, is your religious life in touch with Jesus Christ?
Christ is our ultimate religious faith. The New Testament’s ultimate goal is not creed, or ceremonials, or the life of active Philanthropy. But Christ’s personal life and presence in the hearts are His supreme goal. The Father is what He wants to be to us. Remember that Jesus said, “As the living Father sent me, and I live through the Father, so he who eatth (receives) Me also shall live due to Me.” But this indwelling is only possible when we learn to get all the fresh springs of inspiration, love, life and life from the One with whom our lives are hid in God.
We will know when we kneel before the Lord in meditation or sit in our familiar place that the Lord, whom are seeking, has suddenly appeared to His Temple. The glory of the Lord will lighten our lives and shine its light on the world. While our lives will retain their original characteristics, they will be filled by the “second man,” the Lord from Heaven.
PRAYER for Today
O Holy Spirit, Love God, infuse my heart with Thy grace; illuminate the dark corners of this abandoned dwelling and scatter Thy cheerful beams there; dwell in the soul longing to be Thy temple. AMEN.
