Today’s Devotional Is SCRIPTURE USE IN DEVOTIONAL METHOD

IN EVERY verse of Ps. Ps. 119 contains a mention of the Scriptures by the Psalmist, with one exception. The constant quotations of the Old Testament from our Lord and His Apostles provides ample evidence of loving, reverent fellowship among the holy men of past centuries, who were moved by the Holy Ghost and wrote and spoke as inspired by Him. It is remarkable that Jesus Christ, in His Temptation and in the agony of His Cross, bore constant witness to God’s unique authority through the Old Testament saints.

The Psalmist says that we may be able to know God through threefold revelations. Even though they lack an audible voice or language the heavens proclaim the glory of God and the firmament space is studded with myriads stars shows His handiwork. Their words are a witness to Him in the far reaches of the earth, even though they cannot speak.

This great Psalm’s closing stanza reveals God’s handiwork as it pertains to the creation and direction of our moral nature. The Psalmist praises the Scriptures in ten striking similitudes. The soul in need of restoration; the simple who will become wise; those who are sad but would rejoice; those who seek the truth; those who desire sincerity and reality; and those who seek righteousness and justice–all these needs can be met by a devotional reading of Holy Scripture.

The Bible is the source of endless inspiration and teaching. This has been proven by all great ministries that have remained fragrant and fresh over long periods of time. Let us all resolve to immerse ourselves in the Scripture before we turn to prayer. Water poured into the sucker to moisten it will help to draw up water.

PRAYER for Today

Teach us, O Blessed Spirit, how to read, mark, learn, inwardly digest Thy words. This will enable us to be fully equipped unto all good works and to be able to inspire others to a deep appreciation of the hidden treasures of this universe. AMEN.
