Daily Scripture Reading: Psalms 63:1 KJV
Psalms 63:1 KJV
(1) A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
Today’s Devotional Is THE QUEST FOR THE ETERNAL
This PSALM is a unique fascination for those who are unable to gather with God’s people. David fled Absalom and wandered in the wilderness. His enemies are following him, and the land around him is dry and weary. All of this is secondary to his desire for God. He is weary and thirsty, but his greatest desire is God, the living God. He had seen Him in Zion’s tent for His worship. His soul was hungry for God, and the barren wilderness seemed to reflect that.
His mood can be seen in many people’s hearts and lives. Our soul longs for the presence of God’s power and glory, and for communion with saints. David may place greater importance on the Sanctuary than on other places of worship. Remember that the Glory of the Shekinah shined between the Cherubim at that holy Shrine.
Psa_63.5-7 shows that the longing soul is satisfied. We find God when we seek Him out. We possess what we seek (Isa_41.17-18). When we think of Him, we sing. Our yearnings for God are a response to His beat and His touch. Prayer is our natural response to His lifeblood. It is His command that we seek His face. “When Thou saidst: Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face Lord, will I seek.” It can be stated as follows: “Our needs and aspirations are responses of the Holy Spirit’s silent or expressed communion.”
Psa_63.8 is the climax of Psalm. The threefold steps are: My soul thirsts, my soul is satisfied, and my soul follows hard after Thee. Keep your eyes on Him while you sleep! Through the night, meditate on Him! Under His wings, hide thyself! Follow His lead! Keep following Him closely! Follow Him closely!
