Daily Scripture Reading: Psalms 97:11 KJV
Psalms 97:11 KJV
(11) Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Today’s Devotional Is THE SOLAR LOOK
WRITING OF Emerson: Margaret Fuller writes in her diary that Emerson was present this morning with a sunbeam on his face. Daniel Rowlands, a famous Welsh preacher, is mentioned as having a “solar look” when he preached. He did not think that his face shined, just like Moses. This is what our Lord meant when He told His disciples to anoint their faces and wash them, so that they would not be seen fasting to other men. It is not right for us to look drab and dark as if our religion has a saddening or depressing effect on professors. “Light is given to the righteous and gladness to the upright.”
There are dark sides to human existence, and there are times when we have to endure pain. Every heart has its bitterness, each home its skeleton and every year its fall. What family would be complete without an empty chair and the memory of a still voice? These moods, however, should be left to God only. We can talk to God in quiet times of prayer and thought about our sorrows, worries, and molesting thoughts. Once we have laid our burdens on God, it is time to move on. Hannah said that Hannah’s “countenance was not more sad” (1Sa_1_18).
But it is essential to sow! A farmer cannot calculate the harvest if he hasn’t prepared the soil. The terms of peace offered to us in Jesus Christ and sealed by His resurrection, are not available to those who reject them. Only when we are given the At-onement can we rejoice in God. Only when we have faith that justifies us, can we experience the peace that passes understanding. Only when we walk in light as He is, can we have fellowship with one another. His Light will start to shine on our faces, and transform our lives. The Lord’s redeemed will come singing unto Zion. They will find joy and gladness; sorrow and sighing will disappear.”
PRAYER for Today
Lord, Thou hast made me happy; help me make others happy and give them the same comfort that Thou hast provided me. May I be able to have fellowship with Thee in Thy ministry and redemptive purpose at all costs. AMEN.
