Daily Scripture Reading: Romans 12:2 KJV
Romans 12:2 KJV
(2) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Today’s Devotional Is TRANSFIGURED LIFES
OUR texts use the word rendered transformed or changed the same way as Mat_17.2. This must have been the Apostle’s intention when he said “Be ye Transfigured” and “we are transfigured into one image.” How is this possible? The first is from within by the renewal of the mind. Second, by seeing the glory of God.
The renewal of the mind. This is not about ecstasy or emotion, but rather about bringing our minds in close contact with the truth contained in Holy Scripture. To see if you are being transformed, you don’t need to look in the mirror. But as you immerse yourself in God’s Word day after day, you will be transfigured. Moses did not smile when his face shone. It was not for Moses, but for all those who waited at the mountain-foot to view it.
Our Lord said, “Abide in me and I in you.” This sounds a bit mystical and profound, but Jesus said it again: “If you abide in me, and My words remain in you,”–this is certainly within our reach. Dr. Whyte stated that it is not too high or too deep, nor too inwardly, nor too mystical. He also said that when the Master asked if His words would abide in him, He could only mean that I will often recall and recollect His words and that I shall always repeat them to myself.
If a man thinks in his heart, so is he. If we think those thoughts of self giving, which characterised our Lordโs prediction and determination on Mount of Transfiguration–if our minds are enlivened by the resolve to offer ourselves as living sacrifices holy and acceptable to God; if our minds are steeped in His mind–the transfiguring glory of this high resolve will insensibly flow into our faces, thus radiating our most humble actions and our simplest speech.
Reflecting the Glory of God is a way to behold Him. Holy Scripture is the mirror. There is the reflection of our Lordโs greatest glory, which is not in His Creative, but in His Redemptive work. We will be transformed when we look at Him, who for our salvation did not hide His Face from shame or spitting but became a willing Sacrifice for us.
PRAYER for Today
Lord Jesus Christ, grant me such communion that my soul can continually yearn for the time when I will behold Thee in Your glory. In the meantime, may my eyes behold Thy glory through the mirror of Thy Word and be transformed into the same image. AMEN.
