Daily Scripture Reading: Romans 8:1-4 KJV
Romans 8:1-4 KJV
(1) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
(3) For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
(4) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Today’s Devotional Is WALK NOT AFTER FLESH, but AFTER SPIRIT
The APOSTLE is addressing the conditions of a holy existence. His condemnation is that which is caused by the continual failures described in the previous chapter. My own experience has shown me that introspection, which is often caused by weakness and ill-health, makes us more sensitive to the shortcomings and failures of our inner lives. We are aware that Christ accepts us and has forgiven our sins for us. But we also know deep down that Christ is in us. In our flesh) is no good thing. Rom_7:18).
The Reservoir for Eternal Life the Spirit of Life in Jesus Christ. When a child walks into our room, it is clear what the physical life looks like. We can feel the joy and health of their presence. As we observe the brain develop under the influence of education, we know what intellectual life looks like. We are able to see what the moral life is of a stoic, which resists the temptations of the senses. Above all, Jesus Christ is the Life that is available to us. He abounds in us and He longs for every soul to trust in Him. This was the testimony of those who had known Jesus best in His short human life: “God has given unto us eternal Life, and that Life is in His Son.” “He who has the Son has the Life. He who does not have the Son of God has the Death. This is more than the down-pull on the self-life. Because it has conquered death and the grave, the law of that life frees us from the law of sin or death.
The Holy Spirit communicates and sustains this Life. As the sponge in the ocean, we must be one with Christ. Not only must we be in Him in our standing but also in every day life. As the branch is in the vine and the vine-sap within the branch, we must be in Him. This must be more than a theory. It should be an everyday experience. We must be in Him and in Him. How can we make this our daily reality? Only one way. As we walk in Him, it is through the cooperation of the Holy Spirit. He is the essence and source of the Life that is in Christ Jesus. “The Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from sin and death.
PRAYER for Today
Almighty God, I beg Thee to raise my soul from the grave of sin and give me the life of righteousness through the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. I will then live a new life with the help of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.
