FAQ about Miracles in the Bible
Four types of miracles as outlined in the Bible: miracles of nature, healings, exorcisms, and resurrection. Each miracle is a sign from God that points to something greater. For example, the miracle of nature might be a sign that God is present in the world and active in creation. The healing of someone who is sick might be a sign that God cares for us and wants us to be healthy. And so on.
The Bible is full of incredible miracles, from the story of creation to the many signs and wonders performed by God’s people throughout history. But if we had to choose just one, the greatest miracle in the Bible would undoubtedly be the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Absolutely! But just because something is labeled a “miracle” doesn’t mean that it’s automatically supernatural. Sometimes, what we call a miracle is simply a natural event that we don’t yet understand.
For example, many people believe that the cure for cancer is a miracle. And while it’s true that we still don’t completely understand all the mechanisms behind cancer, it’s not miraculous in the sense of being outside of nature. Science has made incredible strides in understanding and curing cancer, and each new discovery brings us one step closer to finding a cure.
The miracles of Jesus are proposed miraculous deeds attributed to Jesus in Christian and Islamic texts. The majority are faith healings, exorcisms, resurrections, and control over nature.
One estimate says that there are around 75 named miracles in the Bible! This includes things like Jesus healing people, calm seas, wildfires being stopped, etc. And that’s not even counting all the times God intervened in people’s lives in very special ways.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus is said to have performed seven miraculous signs that characterize his ministry, from changing water into wine at the start of his ministry to raising Lazarus from the dead at the end.
Muslims believe in all of the prophets and messengers of God, including Jesus. We believe that Jesus was a prophet who brought miracles into the world through the will of God. The Quran tells us that when Mary was pregnant with Jesus, she experienced some difficulty and hardship. In order to ease her burden, God caused a stream of fresh water to flow from her finger tips whenever she placed her hand over a dry area.
All Christian denominations believe in miracles to some degree. However, some denominations place a greater emphasis on miracles than others. Some of the Christian denominations that practice miracles today include Pentecostals, charismatics, and evangelicals.
