Daily Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 3:8 KJV
1 Peter 3:8 KJV
(8) Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
Today’s Devotional Is CHRISTIAN COURTESY
It would be amazing to see a community that is fully embodied in the principles of this and the next verses. This is the Christian ideal. It would be a great thing if every person would accept these precepts without waiting for others. This would be our most valuable contribution to convincing the world and the coming of Jesus Christ the King. Is it not clear from the Apostle’s use “finally” that all Christian doctrine is meant to lead up and inaugurate the life of love, whose bold outline are shown in these words?
The general principle. The general principle. This oneness of mind doesn’t require monotony in similarity but unity in diversity. Although we will never be one mind in the sense that we all hold the same opinions, we can be one mind when we have a common devotion for Christ.
Please note the application details.
Love as brethren. Love is not the same as love. Providence doesn’t ask us who we would prefer to be our brethren. That is up to us. But we are asked to love them regardless of our preferences and likes. The emotions are not the only source of love, but the will. It is not in feeling but in doing.
Be humble. Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, for your compassion! It is often shown in the Gospel to the weak and erring, the hungry crowds and the afflicted who seek His help.
Be courteous. Always be courteous. Your daily life should reflect the courtliness of your Heavenly Father’s Court. This will allow the world to see that Christianity is not just a heroism for a great occasion but also the daily courtesies.
PRAYER for Today
Blessed Lord, I beg Thee to shower upon me grace that may not only cleanse my life but also beautify it, if It is Thy will. Please grant that I can love Thee with all of my heart, soul, mind, strength, and for my neighbor as well. AMEN.
