Daily Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 6:20 KJV
1 Samuel 6:20 KJV
(20) And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?
Today’s Devotional Is STANDING BEFORE GOD
The phrase “to stand before God” refers to a high-toned religious lifestyle. It includes God’s knowledge, His ability to execute His commands and the ability of interceding for others. This phrase was beloved by Elijah because it reflected the spirit of his great career. We certainly hope that this can be used to describe our life’s attitude and spirit. This must not be an idle wish or a wishful dream. It must be closely linked to great principles.
It is the tendency to follow the majority’s lead that causes this problem for many. Our lives are governed by the current and we allow others to dictate our decisions. We can have a momentary qualm by contrasting our lives to the primitive simplicity standards, which Scripture or the biographies the saints provide. But as long as the main purpose is right, the details are not important. What we really are and essentially is what we make of the smallest details in our lives.
It would be a great revolution for us all if we made it our one and only goal to always serve God and do the things He loves. It wouldn’t make us less caring in our friendships or more active in our service. It wouldn’t take the spark from the eye, the nerve from your grasp, or the warm glow of the heart. It would stop many a vain thought, stop many silly jokes, and bring us back into the truth, honorable, just and pure, beautiful, and of good reporting.
It is important to be open-minded about the world around us. It is hard to define what worldliness is, as what is worldly for some may be ordinary to others. All of us are aware of the ties that bind us to the earth. You can find out what ties you hold onto most by looking at what you cling to, and what it is that makes it difficult to let go of Christ. It doesn’t matter what it is that prevents us living at the highest level. If it is a weight that slows down our progress heavenward, we should place it on God’s altar so that God may allow us to live completely for Him.
PRAYER for Today
We ask the Holy Spirit to help us realize in every day life our true place in Thy will. May our hearts and minds be open to Him, and may we live with Him always. Let our affections be focused on the things above and not on the things of this world. AMEN.
