2 Chronicles 29:27 Devotional On HOW THE SONG OF LORD BEGAN

Daily Scripture Reading: 2 Chronicles 29:27 KJV

2 Chronicles 29:27 KJV
(27)  And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also with the trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel.

Today’s Devotional Is HOW THE SONG OF LORD BEGAN

HEZEKIAH was twenty-five years old when he ascended to the throne and began to reverse the father’s bad policy. He opened the Temple’s doors and ordered the Levites to clean out the courts that had been left behind filth and rubbish. After eight days of hard work, they were able report that their work had been completed. The altar of burnt offering and the table with shewbread were now ready for renewal of their wonted service. The good news was good, and the king, along with his princes, officers, and state officials, participated in a solemn re-dedication service. Hezekiah, amid the tension of the large crowd, ordered that the burnt sacrifice be offered. “When the burnt-offering started, the song for the Lord also began.”

These ancient sacrifices are now history. “Sacrifice, offering and sacrifice Thou doest not desire; my ears hast Thou perceded (nailing Me to Thy Cross); burnt offering and sin-offering hast Thou nicht required. “Then I said, Lo, I’m here, I want to do Thy will, my God!” To yield up one’s life to the Saviour, to surrender our lives for others for His sake, to maintain the steadfast resolve of self-sacrifice,–this surely fulfils the conception of the burnt-offering, which the king ordered that morning as the symbol of national devotion to the Will of God. Is it not amazing that the Song of the Lord also began? Isn’t that the Song of the Lord?

It is the self-contained existence that has found its place within its four walls. Sound-proof, sorrowproof, as it thinks, love-proof, which can be songless and pitiable, are all these things.

Our Lord said, “Whoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” This finding is the source and correlative of the “Song of the Lord.” Unify thyself on the Cross with Jesus Christ, and you will one day find yourself sharing the New Song of Redemption accomplished!

PRAYER for Today

Please give us thankful and loving hearts. May Thy mercies tie us together like cords to the Altar’s horns. Let us consecrate our entire nature to Thine indwelling. As the burnt-offering begins may the Song of the Lord also begin in our hearts. AMEN.
