Hebrews 2:10-11 Devotional On OUR CAPTAIN

Daily Scripture Reading: Hebrews 2:10-11 KJV

Heb 2:10-11 KJV
(10)  For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
(11)  For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Today’s Devotional Is OUR CAPTAIN

The WORD that is translated into this passage might be referred to as Author or Captain. Peter used it when he said: “Ye killed Prince, i.e. The File-leader of all things. Our Lord is seen rising from Joseph’s grave, where He was apparently afflicted by His enemies. As He goes forth, it is revealed that He is the First or Leader of an endless procession which is always ascending from the tomb to stand beside Him and follow Him through all the ages.

The great procession’s earlier section shows us the glory company of the Apostles. Behind them is the goodly fellowship and noble army of martyrs. There are Polycarp, Ignatius, Chrysostom, Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Wesley, and Spurgeon. Our parents and our ancestors are also there. Our children will be there when we are. Through Gethsemane, Calvary, death to life, and through the grave to the Ascension Mount, we follow Christ our captain.

Isaiah predicted Christ’s coming and said that God had given him the role of Leader and Commander (Isa_55.4) Not only is He the Son of God and has earned it through His obedience as a Man, but also because He is His original glory. Our Lord has accomplished the will of God so beautifully that it is impossible to find another. We are called upon by Him to follow His example. As He was made perfect by suffering, so will we be. And as He is now crowned in glory and honour, so will we.

Christ could only bring us into His glory by allowing us to suffer and die. Christ could not act in any other way than to be the Mediator of the Divine Life for His brethren. If we are to be the mediators of blessing and help to others, then we must also be willing to suffer. We have to learn to accept help and support others regardless of our will. Only the way of the Cross leads to the Throne. Only by saying “No to self-life”, can we reach our highest potential. This will bring us suffering and pain, but we can only do this if we are willing to follow our Captain.

PRAYER for Today

O Lord, teach us to not only bear but also to love Thy Cross. May we discover that it is carrying us as we carry it. AMEN.
