Daily Scripture Reading: John 8:12 KJV
John 8:12 KJV
(12) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Today’s Devotional Is JESUS, THE LIGHT OF WORLD
THE STAR Sirius lies so far from us that its light travels at 186,000 miles per seconds. Yet, its light shines down on the telescope so brightly that it dazzles the eyes of the astronomer as if it were the sun. What can we say about Him, who we have been told that “God is Light” and that there is no darkness in Him, if only the light of one created world is in our physical sphere? We can still live, work and fellowship in His search-light.
Present-tense cleansing. A sweep was a friend of mine years ago. He sang Sundays in our choir and his smile was radiant with the love of God. However, when I called his home on his return from work, his expression was so begrumed that it was almost impossible to recognize him! But even so, there was still one bright and clear part of his face as it was on Sunday! His eyes were pearly white, and his pupils looked it! These eyes seemed impervious to the soiling touch of smoke-dust. Why? Nature, God’s glove, has given us eyelids, eye-lashes and tear-water so that no matter what the environment, we can keep our eyes clean and healthy. This is an example of what the Apostle meant when he spoke of the “Blood Jesus Christ cleansing from every sin.” This is the same truth that our Lord taught when He washed the feet of the disciples.
Therefore, the ultimate purpose of the soul should be to walk in light as He is in light. God covers Himself in light like a garment. It is an emblem for purity, love, and joy. Our life is meant for this, even when we feel the need to spend our days with people who do not know God or blaspheme His Name. This Light may shine in the heart and face of those around it, and can fall upon them. This fellowship and communion with Him might be unbroken. It is possible for the song of God to rise in our hearts, without any jarring notes! This seems impossible and unbelievable, especially when you are aware of all the sins and failures. It is possible, but not impossible, once we know the secret to this present tense: “The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth away all sin.”
PRAYER for Today
Fill me with Thy joy and light, O Lord, so that I can give my home and friends and the darkness around me. Keep me from hiding my light beneath the bushel of my anxieties. AMEN.
