Luke 15:17-19 Devotional On THE FAR COUNTRY

Daily Scripture Reading: Luke 15:17-19 KJV

Luke 15:17-19 KJV
(17)  And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
(18)  I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
(19)  And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

Today’s Devotional Is THE FAR COUNTRY

We don’t have to travel far to reach faraway countries. The thought of sin, passionate evil desire, or the lightning flash of an eye may lead us as far away from God as the east from the west. Selfishness is the essence of the far land. The prodigal puts all the emphasis on himself, focusing on his own selfishness. You can make good use of all the wonderful and perfect gifts God has given you, as long as you are in grateful recognition of Him and His fellowship. If we leave God, we are wasting our time, as we lack the one thing that can bring all of our activities together for a worthy focal point: riot, which is because there is no adequate remedy or anti for powerful and masterful passions; need, because the soul was created for God and cannot be satisfied until it rests in Him.

It is foolish for a man not to be connected to God and to become a citizen of the land of forgetfulness. This world’s citizens have nothing to offer the hungry soul of man except to send it out to feed the swine. Too many wiseacres recommend this alternative: “See life, enjoy your pleasure, fill the hours with amusement, revelry, and dissipation.” However, this is not the way to satisfy the soul’s hunger. Husks may be good for swine but not for men’s sons. We cry like the wise man of old: “He has put eternity in mine heart–vanityof vanities, all vanity!” We can’t rest in what is good for us. We long for the good food that our Father provides.

In such situations, we return to ourselves and to our Father. Believe in the loving Father of God, who longs for us even though we are far from Him and will welcome us back with forgiveness and restoration when we return.

PRAYER for Today

Thou shalt know, O Lord, all that I need; aid me and draw out Thy goodness from the treasury to help my weak soul. AMEN.
