Luke 15:28-31 Devotional On THE ELDER BROTHER

Daily Scripture Reading: Luke 15:28-31 KJV

Luke 15:28-31 KJV
(28)  And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
(29)  And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
(30)  But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
(31)  And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

Today’s Devotional Is THE ELDER BROTHER

Of the two, I believe that Esau attracts more attention and affection than his elder brother. Jacob seems more attractive than Esau; Esau seems to be more appealing than Jacob; the publican is better than the Pharisee who rejoices in the fact that he’s not like the others. It is likely that we have a greater affinity for the life of passion and sense than those of respectability and outward decorum.

The father of the elder son was a man of good character. He was able to enjoy the companionship of his father throughout the year and the years that followed.

As the children and daughters of God, this is also our heritage. We can live our lives in the presence of God and have His companionship, discussing all matters concerning our lives with Him. He also has many resources available to us, so we are free to use them for anything we need. All that He has in Christ is ours to claim by faith.

How selfish and loveless was the spirit of his eider brother! He was jealous of his brother’s welcome and complained about how much was being given to someone whose behavior was so different from his own. He was unable to connect with his father because of his selfish nature. A spirit that magnifies its own virtues is not true religion, no matter how correct it may seem.

Let’s all ask ourselves, “Can God our Father address me in such words?” Are we able to be treated with His grace, heavenly benediction and the sons God without rebuke? If we don’t, we’re just as prodigals than our brothers. We are wasting opportunities that angels want. Let us rise and return to our Father. Let us share His joy, let His joy fill our hearts so that we can make merry with Him.

PRAYER for Today

Father, I have sinned.., restore me to the fellowship and blessings of old, so that I can live with Thee here on Earth, until Thou callst me to Heaven. AMEN.
