Daily Scripture Reading: Matthew 18:2-3 KJV
Matthew 18:2-3 KJV
(2) And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
(3) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Today’s Devotional Is The Childlike Heart
In 18:2-3, Jesus calls us to have a childlike heart, not to be childish, but to have the purity and sweetness of a little child. As we grow older, we tend to lose the traits of simplicity, humility, and freedom from self-consciousness that come so naturally to children. Instead, we learn to seek attention and the first place.
However, Jesus tells us that in his Kingdom, those who serve others and stoop down become crowned. He himself exemplified this when he washed the feet of his disciples. It is the childlike hearts that agree on earth in the symphony of prayer and are willing to forgive and forget.
We must be willing to pay the price of attaining the two qualities of a childlike heart – stature and strength of a full-grown adult and the winsome purity and sweetness of a little child. Let us pray to become like little children in God’s kingdom, filled with love, speaking gentle and helpful words, and doing kind and unselfish deeds.
Prayer for Today
Dear Lord, help us to embrace simplicity and humility, to have a childlike heart, and to serve others. May we be of one accord with each other and with You in the symphony of prayer. May we be willing to forgive and forget, and may our lips speak gentle and helpful words, and our hands do kind and unselfish deeds. Amen.
