Daily Scripture Reading: Psalms 107:29-30 KJV
Psalms 107:29-30 KJV
(29) He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
(30) Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Today’s Devotional Is STILLING LIFE’S SHOWS
This Psalm contains five beautiful pictures of life. We first see lost travellers (Psa_107,4-9); then, we see prisoners and captives sitting in darkness (Psa_107,10-16); then, we see a sick-room, (Psa_107,17-22); then, we see a storm at sea (Psa_107,23-32); finally, we see the beautiful picture of a desert being transformed into a fertile land (Psa_107,33-38). The refrain of praising the Lord for His goodness is repeated four more times. Next, we see prisoners and captives who sit in darkness (Psa_107:10-16); then, we see a sick-room (Psa_107:17-22); next, he shows us transforming sand into cultivated land (Psa_107:33-38).
There are times when life is turbulent and chaotic. It seems that we will never find peace and rest as we are being tossed about by angry billows. Many people give in to these experiences because they are forced to. Others try to drown out their fears or dull their awareness of danger and suffering. Faith is able to see the throne and make a connection with it, despite the driving cloud-wrack and murky mists. This is what the New Testament refers to as the anchorage for the soul. No matter how severe the storm, the soul who shelters there is secure. “Then they called upon the Lord in their distress, and He saved them from their troubles.”
You may be going through an outward storm at this time. Wave after wave of trouble comes at you. Each calamity follows the next until your little life seems overwhelmed. Cry to God, and look up to God. He sees you and won’t allow you to become engulfed.
You may also be feeling inward sadness. You may be feeling inward sorrow because your affections are not right. The one you love has failed you and deceived you. When it’s hard to find the right solution for the soul, look up to Him, who holds the winds in his fist and the waters in His hollow hand. He cannot forget those who cry out to Him.
