Daily Scripture Reading: Psalms 147:1 KJV
Psalms 147:1 KJV
(1) Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
Today’s Devotional Is PRAISING LORD
It is a fitting thing to combine praise and prayer.
There’s a difference between thanksgiving and praise. We praise God for His goodness and we thank Him for all He has done for our lives. We are closest to Heaven’s worship, where Angels and Redeemed can make the most of their faculties by praising God and claiming honour, glory, and praise. Reciting the Te Deum before asking God for any gift is something I find most helpful in my private devotions. It helps to place God in His proper place and to bow before Him in praise and adoration. It is good to praise God, and praise is gracious.
Let us praise His condescending love (Psa_147:1-6). He counts the stars like a shepherd telling his sheep. The Psalmist compares the constellations with a flock of sheep that their shepherd drives through space. It is a wonderful concept of suns and planets, asteroids, and other celestial bodies. This wonderful and infinite God is able to take notice of our small lives and give His blessings to the outcasts and the broken-hearted and the hurting. He is attentive to every one of us, no matter how small or insignificant. God is just as attentive and thoughtful to the needs of the youngest and most fragile child in her household, so God is equally tender, strong, and efficient in helping the most vulnerable and helpless. He seeks out the lost sheep and prodigal child.
Let us praise God for His providence. This Psalm uses present tenses. Psalmist believed that God was working in all things, and that everything was due directly to His Providence. Jesus also confirmed this by saying that no sparrow was ever lost without His notice. The pure, childlike, and meek can see God’s hand in everything. God is, God is everywhere active, God is always energetic, so there is no time or place in which He is not operating. “Let’s offer the sacrifice of praise continually to God, that is, the fruit our lips, giving thanks for His Name” (Heb_13.15).
PRAYER for Today
We beseech Thee to give us a proper sense of Thy mercies so that our hearts can be unsparingly grateful, and that our lives may reflect Thy praise. This is done by giving ourselves up to Thee and walking before Thee in righteousness and holiness all our days. AMEN.
