Psalms 8:3-4 Devotional On GOD’S CONDESCENSION FOR MAN

Daily Scripture Reading: Psalms 8:3-4 KJV

Psalms 8:3-4 KJV
(3)  When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
(4)  What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Today’s Devotional Is GOD’S CONDESCENSION FOR MAN

CERTAIN writers ridiculed the notion that the Almighty Ruler can know anything about a cheese-mite like man because he inhabits the stellar space. He said, “Put yourself into the planetary space, just a dot, and you will see that the Almighty Maker can discern thee!” But greatness is not bigness. The value of an infant in a cradle or royal palace is greater than that of his parents or nation. The age that discovers the telescope with its infinite abyss, also discovers the microscope with its infinite abyss below.

The Psalmist’s outlook is so different! He stands beneath the Eastern heavens, glowing at midnight with myriads dazzling constellations and cries, “O Jehovah my Lord, how great is Thy Name on all the earth, who set Thy glory higher than the heavens!” These are Thy heavens; they are Thy hands’ work. As for stars and moon, Thou hast created them. What a great God Thou art! He then turns his attention to man and says: There must have been something more to man than what a simple glance can see. Since the great God, the Creator of these worlds calls him friend, it is certain that he must possess unrealized dignity or worth.

The question is: How does God enjoy visiting, i.e. In having fellowship with a race as evil as ours. While He may have had fellowship with Moses, Elijah, Daniel, or John, how is it possible for Him to engage in intimate relationships with people just like us? Is Zaccheus not a publican, and what is it that the Son of Man should come to his house? He was, however, restoring his ill-gotten wealth, which Jesus considers a possibility for him to be a son of Abraham. Simon Peter? Why should Christ visit him? He will be the leader of the Church, the rock-man. Christ our Lord knows what we might become and He is waiting for us to admit Him. Let us listen to His call and invite Him in.

PRAYER for Today

O God, may all of our nature be dedicated to Thine indwelling use. Let us not be afraid of the dark. But may the shining light of Thy Presence envelop us in peace and joy. AMEN.
