14  Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.14  “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.14  Then Joshua told the people: Worship the LORD, obey him, and always be faithful. Get rid of the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived on the other side of the Euphrates River and in Egypt.
15  And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.15  And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”15  But if you don’t want to worship the LORD, then choose right now! Will you worship the same idols your ancestors did? Or since you’re living on land that once belonged to the Amorites, maybe you’ll worship their gods. I won’t. My family and I are going to worship and obey the LORD!

Hebrews 12:5-9 KJVHebrews 12:5-9 ESVHebrews 12:5-9 CEV
5  And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:5  And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him.5  But you have forgotten that the Scriptures say to God’s children, “When the Lord punishes you, don’t make light of it, and when he corrects you, don’t be discouraged.
6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.6  For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”6  The Lord corrects the people he loves and disciplines those he calls his own.”
7  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?7  It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?7  Be patient when you are being corrected! This is how God treats his children. Don’t all parents correct their children?
8  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.8  If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.8  God corrects all of his children, and if he doesn’t correct you, then you don’t really belong to him.
9  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?9  Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?9  Our earthly fathers correct us, and we still respect them. Isn’t it even better to be given true life by letting our spiritual Father correct us?
