Daily Scripture Reading: Luke 15:25-28 KJV
Luke 15:25-28 KJV
(25) Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
(26) And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
(27) And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
(28) And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
Today’s Devotional Is MUSIC AND DANCING
THE ELDER brother heard music and dance as he approached the house. They were the harmony of the house because they were the melody that rang through the Father and Master’s hearts. Each household is more or lesser attuned with the spirit of its leader. This warning is for us to not bring our worries and moods home and lower the spirits of the family members.
The father was elated at his son’s return. The Greek says that there were three levels of servants in the home, which was evidently a large household. All of them were exuberant joy. There was not a girl who didn’t dress up in her finest and not a boy who didn’t polish his buttons. This was made even more impressive when compared to the dark clouds that had engulfed them over the past few years. It was the reflection of the sadness of the master!
Would there not have been an identical outburst in joy for the elder brother? He had not returned, but he was certain that he hadn’t gone astray. He was not a forgivable wastrel. But he had never violated his father’s commandment. He was not honored with a fatted calf being killed, and no music or dancing was performed to celebrate his loyalty to the home. This was fair, or?
There were also compensations. “Thou art always with me, and all I have is Thine.” “If children, then heirs, heirs of God, joint-heirs alongside Christ. All things are His. We can walk with God as Enoch and enjoy fellowship with Him. While the prodigal may be able to dance and sing, it is better to live a life filled with love and peace, and unbridled in its even tenor, happiness, and peace. No! We will not grudge him for one hour of joy, but God’s greatest and sweetest gift to us is an unclouded heart, restful serenity, peace, and the daily love of God that we feel as we live in His loving presence.
PRAYER for Today
Heavenly Father, take from me all hatred, malice, envy, and any other behavior that could cause a rift between me and my fellow humans; that nothing can stop the flow of Thy love towards my heart and outflowing towards others. AMEN.
